Rachel Williams is inspiring us to register in the Summer Learning Journey. I'm thrilled to see what kind of adventure we are blogging about. The main focus of the whole program is related to New Zealand. Huge prizes are given away to those who come in the top 3. Chocolate, cookies, lollies, or maybe a valued item that costs over fifty dollars!
I entered last term, and my friends made it into the top two; but I came third. I was depressed to see that I didn't win a rugby ball or basketball.
This blog is a record of my learning from Ruapotaka School in Auckland, NZ through to Tamaki College.

Manaiakalani Film Festival!
Yesterday our whole school went to the Maniakalani Film Festival at the Hoyts Cinemas. First of all we all needed to be seated, waiting for the movies to start. Once the movies started, I was thrilled to see the lights turn off and the speakers piercing loud. Afterwards the dramatic sounds ended, the performers introduced themselves and their movie.
Everyone's movies were fascinating but it was time to go. It felt like half an hour but it was literally one hour!

π Vocabulary Testing π
Today I sat a Year 7 vocabulary test. We had twenty-five minutes maximum to complete the test. Within ten minutes I completed about fifteen questions. It was a sentence with a vocabulary word and you had to think of something similar to it. Soon, twenty-five minutes was up and the miscellaneous monitor is responsible for collecting the answer sheets and booklets to hand back to our teacher.

π Testing Day π
On Thursday Room 12 had to do an assessment based on division, multiplication, addition, subtraction and spelling. We all had to complete one sheet within 2 minutes. When I had finished each sheet and had time left over, I checked my work for any errors. Afterwards when testing was over, the scores were revealed and I saw my name highlighted in green. After I received my test back I realized that I had one incorrect question. Apparently it was multiplication which was worse, I felt disappointed at myself even though I lost a mark.

π§Week 1 Nobel Pineda Technicraftπ§
I was finally back at Technicraft. I was quite dismayed for being away that long.
First thing I did was to create my own takeaway box and design it with my own thoughts. Once I had completed my plan, Mr Pineda provided me with a piece of paper with a three dimensional shape.
After I put all my ideas and methods are on a sheet, I had to colour it in. Then I showed it to Mr Pineda and he handed out ten points. Eventually, it was time to pack up and if you clean the classroom your points will be increased by two. I enjoyed Ttechnicraft, but it was time to go.

Colour Combination
Firstly grab a cardboard and find a circle object with a diameter of 10 cm. Afterwards cut out your circle and make holes in each of your circles. Find the centre point, measure 1 cm on either side of the circle and poke a nail into it. Also cut out 1 metre length of string for this process to work. Lastly colour half of each side red, green or blue.
Then put the string through the holes and spin them to create changing colours.

Learn 3D Shapes
Today at Technicraft I attended a graphics class and had a lesson on 3-dimensional shapes. Mr Pineda our instructor reviewed how to cut 3-dimensional shapes. Afterwards, I had to design my first 3 dimensional shape.. Once you complete your 3-dimensional shape you gain points for yourself. The harder the cutting, folding, and gluing the pieces together, the more points you will receive.

Graphics With Nobel Pineda
Yesterday at Technicraft we were with Nobel Pineda our teacher. He informed us how to draw and sketch our names for art. Afterwards when most year 7's were done, they had to move onto the next task: naming a restaurant, names for your products and ingredients.
All I was focusing on was points. When you achieve something Mr Pineda will add up your points on a score board. The most points will win a prize or just nothing, it depends.
Furthermore drawing was enjoyable but studying on chrome was more effective!

ππ Hooray Back To Technicraft! ππ
We have came back to Tech and I have to work on my project. The first I thing I had to do was write some reasons why are we making our project, who is it and how why is it made. I made squares on my design to look more realistic. After I have done my patterns Mr Grundy gave me permission to go through the yellow and black line and show me his fearcing machines. He gave me a simple one of a small machine that burns wood. To make it more safe, we have a plug at the end, it has a bend curving and it will burn so hot it can burn wood very easy. The patterns I have made, I had to burn around it to look more likely a giraffe. Afterwards it was time to go. I had a really exciting day at technicraft! by the way my project is not completed

I Hate Cross Country!
Today I did the cross country run where the seniors and few juniors had to sprint or jog around the streets. We had to run 2 to 4 laps around our school. Cross country is really difficult and exhausting but the year 7's and 8's have to continue for 4 laps while the year 5's and 6's only have to do 2 to 3 rounds.
Practicing for weeks is tough but you will gain more stamina, everyday. I walked half way but dashed through the whole way around.

No More Cooking.π
Today the Year 7's change around. We do not do cooking anymore, instead we now do graphics. We entered the graphics room and found out that our first project was to draw our name. Not any standard writing, it had to be creative and stunning! Making patterns or design for your name. It could also be bold and block writing. Sketching or high lighting is a good way to make your model more satisfying. Afterwards our drawing was completed, I showed it to my instructor to see if he will like it or not. I was so thrilled about what I created. It looked like a masterpiece to me. I didn't get enough time to color it in because we had to go.

Making Muffins Again!
As usual, the year sevens went to Mrs Tuipolotu for cooking. I thought we were going to make new desserts but I was surprised. We were making muffins again! Banana muffins, the ingredients were three quarters of milk, a bowl of melted butter, one egg, one and a half cup of flour, three table spoons. Bake them in the oven for 15-30 minutes.
Afterwards we recited our prayer and ate. Delicious!

Chicken Curry At Tech!
Every Wednesday we go to Tech to cook delicious food. The year sevens went to Mrs Tuipolotu's classroom to cook Chicken Curry! After she showed us the ingredients, she told us to grab items from the cupboard. Chicken, Curry powder, black pepper, tomato paste, Indian tomato sauce, herbs spices, and brown sugar to make not so sour.
Afterwards we needed to grab our equipment: tongs, frying pan, a pot and a wooden spoon. First step was filling the pot with water and putting the chicken inside. Next, we put the pot on the top of the stove to heat up. When the chicken was soft and cooked we put it in a frying pan, with the rest of the ingredients except brown sugar. Then we mixed all the ingredients together to make one big pile of tomato paste. We also put in brown sugar to not make it so sour and added the chicken to our tomato paste. Later we mixed it together and we're done.

100% Pure New Zealand Facts!
Three facts that I learnt about New Zealand.
1. New Zealand has a population of over 4.4 million people!
2.New Zealand is a small country, but same size to Great Britain or Japan.
3. Over three-quarters of the population in New Zealand live on the north side of the island, only one-third with the rest of the population live in Auckland.

Daily Hard Fitness
Working hard at fitness is really tough, but it is really good exercise when you wake up in the morning and come to school.
Everyday we get into class lines waiting for our teacher Mr Reid to let Room 9 go first. After Room 9 goes Room 10 follows by Rooms 11 and 12. We all run up the hill, then towards the staff room, turn right ninety degrees to a lower pathway. Then, down a small bluff, turn clock wise and run down pass the toilets. Afterwards we pass the building and back on the concrete outside the classrooms. We carry that on until ten minutes further.

Having Fun At St Kent's!
On Thursday we went on a bus trip to St Kent's. While there we were separated into five groups with two or more St Kent's students. I was in group five and our first game was master, a game similar to basketball, where are part of the game is having a master.
You have to stand in one spot and shoot the ball into the hoop. If you do this you beat the master, but if you fail the master will grab the ball where it bounced. When, a St Kent's student blows a whistle we have to change position.
the people beside
The next game we played is called Bang, where we pretend we have one gun in each hand. If they call your name we have to duck down. The people beside us appear to shoot at us, but instead they are shooting the person next to us will try to shoot us. If you don't duck fast enough you are out. If the person to your left or right have their name said, you have to shoot them but instead you will shoot the person next to them. If you say, ''Bang!'' fast enough they will be shot first and you survive.
After we played a new game called capture the flag but instead the flag was a rugby ball and soccer ball.We have to grab the other teams ball in their territory. If you get tagged on their side you have to stand still for your teammate to tag you free. If you get their ball and run back to your base you win!
After they blew the whistle and we had to go. It was really fun St Kent Day!

πCooking At Technicraft!!!π
First step of keeping safe from cooking is wearing aprons to protect your clothes from stains. If a fire happens we have to yell ''Mrs Tuipolotu fire,!'' and she will grab a fire proof blanket or a fire extinguisher. After we learnt about the safety equipment we had to learn how to organise the cooking equipment. As soon as the table was clean, the equipment was ready, we looked at Mrs Tuipolotu who told us that we were making milkshakes!
We grabbed a mixer with a bowl and Mrs Tuipolotu placed three cups of ice-cream in our bowl and we had to mix the ice-cream until it was creamy. As soon as we all had a turn of mixing the ice-cream, we scooped some of the mixture into our cups and waited in a line until we received our chocolate flavoring. Then we had to walk around in circle for the next round of whip cream. Mrs Tuipolotu sprayed some whip cream for about five seconds and then she'd shout, ''Next,!'' After drinking our delicious milkshake we had to clean all our equipment before we could drink more of our milkshake.
This was the first time making milkshakes in my life!

Week 2 Technicraft
We have come back to Tech and I have to work on my project. The first thing I had to do was write some reasons why we are making our project, who is it for, what it is made of.
I made squares on my design to look more realistic. After I had done my patterns Mr Grundy gave me permission to go through the yellow and black line and show me his piercing machines. He gave me a simple small machine that burns wood. To make it more safe, we had a plug at the end. It has a bent curve and it will burn so hot it can burn wood very easily.

By the way my project is not completed.

Mr Grundy's Wood Working
We started off with a 320cm length wood. The most important tools are pencil and paper. If you didn't have these two supplies you wouldn't be able to make anything. If you do have them, you also needed a ruler. The ruler is for measuring your wooden board onto your sheet of paper.
You had to start off writing your name on the top right hand corner of your sheet of paper so Mr Grundy and the other year 7s will know who's it is.

Room 11's Hosting Assembly
It was Room 11's turn to host the Senior Syndicate Assembly. They chose a song called 'Happy' by Velody. Afterwards we had a singing competition. Room 11 had to choose two students from each classroom to sing a song. Rooms 9, 10 , and 11 got to sing but unfortunately the chosen Room 12 students weren't there to perform as they were called away. So Vaimoana stood in and sang a song by herself. First place came Room 12, second, Room 9, third 10 and lastly Room 11. Then we handed out the certificates to the students who were working hard and behaving well. At the end of Room 11 syndicate assembly Meafou took Room 9 out to the door followed by Rooms 10, 11 and 12.

Hit The Quan!!!
Tuesday 7th February 2017
It was Room 12s turn to host the senior assembly. Room 12 organisers had to choose 9-12 people to stand up and impress the audience with what they could do. First they started off with a happy song. The song is about staying happy through all your life.
After we students finished singing the song the teachers gave certificates to the students who were behaving and working hard. After we had done exciting things we went into more exciting stuff. Each class had to choose two students to preform their dance to a beat.
Later we sang a song called 'Lean On Me'. It was really calming and relaxing singing it. Afterwards it was time to go, Tyron then ended Room 12s syndicate assembly.
